Re: darker adult themes in fairytales  (reply)
You're probably thinking of Henson's "Jack and The Beanstalk: The Real Story." And speaking of Henson there's his Storyteller series. I'm also reminded of the 2005 Brother's Grimm movie.

Re: fairy tales or myths with flowers, specifically lillies, roses, sunflowers, tulips  (reply)
I'm having images of Eliza in Andersen's the wild swans--toads turn to poppies when they touch her because she's so good. And all the Toads and diamonds girls, with flowers falling from their lips (and some fractured versions of that in the Snow White ...

I am currently working on a paper on fairy tale retellings done by Tanith Lee. I was browsing the internet, looking for sources like transcripts of speeches, but seem to be coming up short. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could access articles, ...

Re: Help Identifying a Fairy Tale Childrens Book  (reply)
Unfortunately there's thousands of these collections out there. The stories are public domain (although specific printings may be copyrighted) so just about every children's publisher seems to put a book out of these at some time. While it's easy enough ...

Thank you both for your helpful information! Alice, I certainly don't plan to let any presses see this before it's just as good as I can make it. If by some marvelous means it does become a book, I'll certainly let the boards know. ~Kristi

Re: publishing advice for new writers?  (reply)
Hi kristiw, Before discussing agents and editors, you need to consider honing the manuscript. I highly recommend finding other writers to read your drafts and provide feedback. If this is a YA or younger book, consider joining SCBWI (the Society of ...

Re: publishing advice for new writers?  (reply)
I normally suggest people try Agentquery.com, although the site's down right now. An agent tries to sell your manuscript to publishers. An editor suggests modifications to the manuscript to make it suitable for publishing. Typically, the editor is ...

Re: Dissertation help on The Princess and The Frog  (reply)
For as much flak as Disney will catch from cultural studies critics and theorists for what I'm sure will be a film containing a few broad stereotypes and even more gross oversimplifications about voodou, most seven year old girls are neither critics nor ...

Re: dissertation project: fairy tales that should be published?  (reply)
Most fairy tales are probably "underdog" fairy tales since about the only ones really well known are the ones done by Disney. There is a range of degrees when it comes to how well know various fairy tales are. There are the Disney tales that everyone ...

I think you may be confusing plagiarism with copyright. Copyright applies to rights of ownership over the material. Plagiarism is to take another's written work and pass it off as your own. Copyright tends to apply to the work as a whole while plagiarism ...
