My name is Brianna. I'm a 17 year old Girl Scout, and I desperately want to get my Gold Award finished by my 18th
birthday which is in June. I'll admit I procrastinated a fair amount...alright, a lot, but I really feel like I can put it together.
My idea is to start a story theater at my local library to get more kids to come to the library. (In all honesty, the library isn't very well populated by people of a younger age bracket...) For material for this story theater, I want to use fairy tales.
And here's where my silly questions come in. I know very little about public domain and copyright laws, so any information you can offer me would be a HUGE help.
Are the works of The Brothers Grimm, Hans Christian Andersen, Aesop and Oscar Wilde all in the public domain?
Would I be allowed (legally) to produce their stories as short plays for performance (free of charge) in a public library?
I need to know before I get myself arrested for trying to fulfill my Gold Award project, I believe you would be the people who can help me get to my happily ever after.
Thank you SO much!
