Searching for fairy tale adverts. I am doing my final year of a photography course and writing about appropriation in advertising. I want to write about the
use of fairy tales (ie: the Annie Leibovitz/ Disney project 07/08) in photographic advertising. Being a photography course, I am only interested in printed
image campaigns. Have you discovered any interesting adverts? I am in Australia but happily looking for adverts from around the world - this might mean adverts
common to you I have never heard of. Appreciate your help!

Herbal Essences has a campaign using Rapunzel right now.
They've used fairy tale stuff in the past, too. We've had many, many threads on this topic over the years. Search SurLaLune from the main page to find the materials in the archives. I'm away from home so I don't have ready access to the links myself. But a search will produce them. Heidi |

but paying off. By the way, your website is amazing. Such detail!

J.C. Penney is running a series of print ads currently: they seem to run as sets in magazines (I've only seen these in women's magazines thus far): an
image of a young couple in a modern kitchen with a bowl of golden eggs and a goose in the background (I'm afraid I can't remember the caption to this
one, as I tore it out and posted it outside my office), a chagrined/amused family of three baking gingerbread men with the caption "Today's the day
for surprises!" as one jumps off the pan, and, out of keeping with the contemporary ethos of the rest of the set, a woodland setting with a
"prince" in a white tux (no crown or other signifiers) proffering a glass slipper to a seated "princess" in a tiara captioned
"Today's the day you've been dreaming of." HTH ....

The JC Penney ads are for their Bridal registry, and you can find them in practically every Bridal magazine, if that helps. (They're in the current Modern
Bride and Bride issues)
It might also be worth it to go to the store and get a bridal registry catalog. I picked one up at a bridal faire, and the entire catalog is done in fairy tale style. It's really quite charming. |
