This your Two brothers one? They included a
similar one, The Gold Children. The Knights of the Fish, The Enchanted Doe, and The Three Princes and Their Beasts also reflect many common elements. Shortshanks also revolves about a pair of brothers
Sons of a mermaid -- I'm afraid I don't recollect any fairy tales featuring anything but mermaids. Perhaps selkies would be close enough? But most selkie tales revolve about their relationship to their husbands. |

A selkie is a seal-human shape shifter. They come in male as well as female. The Great Silkie of Sule Skerry revolves about a father selkie. But female selkies appear in a
number of fairy tales rather like those with swan maidens. Three of them are The Silkie Wife, The Sealskin and The Mermaid Wife -- yes the title says Mermaid, but the text is clearly of a
selkie. You might find more of interest here

There's a rather rare book called Hungarian Fairy Tales in which a man steals away and marries a water-fairy, daughter of the lake king. When their son
grows up and becomes a hero, he swims under the lake to steal the king's gold. He eventually destroys the corrupt kingdom there and returns above to find
his mother has aged and become a mortal. And for mer-sons, there's always Achilles and Triton, both sons of Nereids. Selkies have young sons in the tales,
but rarely adult ones.

There's also a beautiful folk telling of The Sealskin in the film The Secret of
Roan Inish (1994). An actor with a thick Irish brogue narrates the tale while the camera depicts the story about the selkie in a very fairy-tale-like,
lilting mood.
