For Scottish stories, a good introduction would be Scottish Traditional Tales, edited by Alan Bruford and Donald A. MacDonald, published originally by Polygon in 1994, more recently reissued by Birlinn in 2007. It is a collection of nearly a hundred tales and legends of various sorts, mostly transcribed (and translated in the case of those originally told in Gaelic) from sound recordings in the collection of the School of Scottish Studies in Edinburgh, with a good introduction and thorough notes by the editors, who were both leading experts in Scottish traditions. There is also a 2-CD set of some of the original sound recordings, Scottish Traditional Tales, issued by Greentrax as number 17 in their "Scottish Tradition" series. It contains a mixture of wonder tales told by travelling people in Lowland Scotland and tales and legends from Orkney and Shetland, all with full transcriptions and notes.
