I have read sooooo many great stories... I have read all the Shannon Hale books, Beastly, The Blue Girl, Tiffinay Trent's books, Artemis Fowl, Cirque Du Freak, The dragon tellings, Eragon, Brian Jacques books, even....Twilight..... But I have been running low on books. DO you know of any good books like the ones I have read? Thanks.

I recommend books by Donna Jo Napoli. She has many a fairy tale novels, and lovely writing. They're young adult and children, but they're worth a read.

Ok, here are a few: I highly recommend reading some of Robin McKinley's books. She has retellings of popular fairytales and other fiction books, but my
favourites are Beauty (love this and can read it quickly), Spindle's end, Deerskin and Rose daughter. She has a great writing style and great takes on the
old tales. I've just started reading the mists of Avalon trilogy by Marion Bradley Zimmer. It's a very mythical/celtic/female based series and very
different and interesting from the original Arthur tales. There are three big books so something to get into and although I found they can be hard going they
are also really good. I also HAVE to recommend the Daughter of the Forest trilogy by Juliet Marillier. They are all good but the first book, the Daughter of
the forest is my favourite. It is a version of the six swans fairytale, set in ancient ireland. I cannot stress how much I LOVE this book; one of my favourites
if not my favourite book for a good year or so. The story is incredible, the writing lyrical, it's truly gripping and the central character romance is just
beautiful. I was reaidng it into the wee hours and wanted to get to bed just so I could get up and start reading again (sad I know lol). Of course thats my
opinion
but I did recommend it to my cousin and a friend, both who read it and loved it as much as me, so give it a go. Also there is an unexpected fourth
book coming out round about now which I only just found about; I thought it was just going to be a trilogy but there you go. She also has other books which
sound really good and I'm aiming to read such as Wildwood dancing ( the twelve dancing princesses tale) and others. I can't think of any more at the
moment but I'll add if I do.

Holly Black does wonderful things with faerie and folklore in Tithe, Ironside,and Valiant. Cannot recommend highly enough. Robin McKinley is, of course, a
goddess!

Have you read any Patricia Mckillip? I read her Winter Rose and Forgotten Beasts of Eld, both very good, with very poetic language...O.R. Mellings' Hunter's Moon was pretty good, although the contemporary references in it will date it in the future...there was an awesome book I read as a teenager, that few have heard of, called "A Walk out of the World" by Ruth Nichols, it was almost Tolkienesque in its storyline but of course much shorter...The Perilous Gard by Elizabeth Marie Pope is a classic... I actually have a similar question, I just finished all the Holly Black "Tithe" series, and found them quite captivating...does anyone have good recommendations for what to read next, if you're a Holly Black fan? I have "Wicked Lovely" on hold at the library, under the assumption that it will be similar to Black's books, but I welcome other recommendations.... Thanks, Callie |

For "similar" to Holly Black, definitely Melissa Marr and Cassandra Clare. A degree further away might be Scott Westerfeld, Libba Bray and Melissa
de la Cruz. (I've not read Cruz myself.) There's always Neil Gaiman, too, especially now with his shiny new Newbery Medal for The Graveyard Book. Perhaps also Liz Berry's The China Garden.
For good YA fantasy, but not as dark, Kristin Cashore's Graceling was a personal favorite last year and Alison Goodman's Eon.

And I almost forgot about Neil Gaiman, Stardust was one of my absolute favorites, the kind of book that makes your heart ache when you're done reading it, because there's no more of it to read...Yvaine is one of my favorite spunky female characters in fantasy fiction... Well I know that I absolutely LOVE the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling, and the books by Gail Carson Levine are good.
